– Africa’s Research Hub
A new era in African science. We're dedicated to driving progress and innovation in science across Africa, creating lasting impact through collaborative research and development.
The vision of the APCC is the sustainable development of African populations towards good health and wellbeing.
The mission of the APCC is to enhance African population cohorts through a consortium to harness the continent's unique diversity and research capabilities, thereby facilitating scientific breakthroughs, building the African evidence base, and strengthening policy and practice towards attaining equitable universal health coverage.
We promote inclusive, participatory collaboration that ensures fair representation and shared benefits across all stakeholders.
We commit to open, accountable decision-making, resource use, and data sharing.
We embrace continuous improvement and cutting-edge research to advance scientific discovery.
We uphold ethical, respectful collaboration that balances individual and collective goals.
We pursue long-term, environmentally, and socially responsible research through diverse partnerships and mindful resource use.
We amplify all voices, especially the least heard and invest in Africa's next generation of scientific leaders.
The APCC brings together Africa's leading population cohort studies to drive collaborative, ethical, and policy-relevant science across the continent. By uniting more than 45 cohorts in 16 countries, APCC promotes data harmonization, cohort integration, and longitudinal research that tackles Africa's most pressing health, climate, and development challenges.
Our goal is to transform how longitudinal data is used — not only to advance research, but to drive evidence-informed policy, empower local research leadership, and ensure inclusive development.
With support from the Science for Africa Foundation and in partnership with global and regional actors, the APCC is building a federated platform of secure, accessible data, grounded in African priorities.

The APCC was officially launched in May 2024 at a landmark meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, where representatives from 45 cohorts across 16 African countries endorsed the APCC Blueprint — a strategic framework that defines our mission, values, governance, and research agenda.
APCC's governance structure ensures inclusive, transparent, and accountable leadership, drawing from the expertise of its member cohorts and stakeholders.
The ISC provides strategic leadership and oversight during the establishment phase. It consists of 15 members — a mix of elected and co-opted representatives from across Africa.
Each full member cohort of the APCC nominates one delegate to this council. The Council serves as the highest decision-making body and meets annually to shape APCC strategy.
Cohort participants are the heart of the APCC. The Forum ensures their voices are heard and helps align research questions with community priorities.
A body of international experts in longitudinal research, ethics, and health systems advises the APCC Steering Committee and promotes alignment with global best practices.
The APCC's programs and workstreams are designed to achieve our mission and vision. Here's a brief overview of our key initiatives:
Building the foundation for strong coordination and leadership.
Driving transformative research across Africa.
Connecting people, partnerships, and priorities.
Ensuring research is fair, inclusive, and community-centered.
Creating secure, interoperable data systems.
