About this cohort
The Iganga Mayuge Health and Demographic Surveillance Site (IMHDSS) is a population-based longitudinal cohort located in eastern Uganda. It was established in 2005 by Makerere University and is managed by Makerere University Centre for Health and Population Research (MUCHAP) as a research platform of the University. It routinely collects longitudinal data on over 110,000 individuals across rural and peri-urban communities in Iganga and Mayuge districts. The IMHDSS monitors vital events of births, deaths, migrations, and health indicators, providing a robust foundation for health research, policy evaluation, and intervention studies nested within the cohort in low-resource settings.
