1. About these Terms
These Terms of Use apply to your use of the apcc.africa website and its services, including the cohort directory and the APCC Annual Conference registration and abstract submission portal (together, the “Site”). The Site is operated by the African Population Cohorts Consortium (APCC), hosted by the Science for Africa Foundation, Nairobi, Kenya.
By using the Site you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
2. Using the Site
You may use the Site for lawful purposes only. You must not:
- try to gain unauthorised access to the Site, its accounts or its systems;
- interfere with the security or normal operation of the Site, or upload malicious code;
- collect or harvest personal information about other users;
- impersonate another person or organisation, or submit information you know to be false or misleading.
3. Accounts, registration and submissions
When you register, create an account or submit information, you agree to provide accurate details and to keep your login details confidential. You are responsible for activity carried out under your account.
When you submit an abstract or other content, you confirm that you have the right to submit it and that any co-authors have agreed. You keep ownership of your work. You grant APCC a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce and publish your submission for conference and related non-commercial purposes, for example in review, the conference programme, abstract books and on the Site. Submitting an abstract does not guarantee acceptance.
APCC may remove content or suspend access that breaches these Terms.
4. Information on the Site
Information on the Site is provided for general information. Cohort profiles and related details are supplied by the cohorts and partners concerned. APCC takes reasonable care to keep the Site accurate and up to date but does not guarantee that all information is complete, current or error-free. Nothing on the Site is medical, legal or other professional advice.
Access to cohort data is not provided through the Site; it is governed by each cohort’s own data access procedures and agreements.
5. Intellectual property
Unless stated otherwise, the content of the Site, including text, graphics and the APCC name and logo, belongs to APCC or its licensors. Partner names and logos belong to their respective owners.
You may view, download and print pages for personal, educational or research reference, with attribution to APCC. Any other reproduction or reuse requires our prior written permission.
6. Links and third-party services
The Site links to, or uses, services provided by others, such as partner websites, map services and ORCID. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and APCC is not responsible for their content or practices.
7. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The Site is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, APCC is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
8. Privacy
We handle personal information as described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last changed. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
