About the cohort
The Kimpese Health Research Centre (KHRC) was estab lished at the Evangelical Medical Institute (IME) of Kimpese in 2017 as part of a research consortium that resulted from a quadripartite agreement between 4 congolese institutions, including two universities, one medical institute and one national health NGO. Since 2017, the Kimpese HDSS has benefited from the support of the Nanoro HDSS in Burkina Faso.

Experts in demo graphics and data management visited the Kimpese site and contributed to the training of staff and the establishment of the HDSS in Kimpese. Households were identified during census mapping that was carried out between October 2017 and March 2018. The DSA was defined on a population basis (population > 60 000). At the time of the initial baseline cen sus in 2018, the number of people was 58 845 (28 517 female and 30 328 male).
By July 2019, the Kimpese HDSS had recorded 68 205 inhabitants, distributed among 14 612 households (all mapped with GPS coordinates). In 2020, dur ing the second update round, 65 140 individuals (31 497 fe male and 33 643 male) were identified. The average number of people per household in 2019 was 4. 5.
